‘SUBASE Events’ Archive
Earth Day is coming on Thursday April 22 this year. Last year all SUBASE departments and tenant commands were challenged to participate in an array of environmentally focused community outreach events. More than 15 commands and activities and nearly 250 sailors and civilians answered the call. Over 1300 hours of volunteer time was eventually contributed to the community projects. This year, the SUBASE Commanding Officer, Captain Marc Denno is renewing the challenge. Subase will again be partnering with regional state parks, towns, and local land conservancies to undertake environmental stewardship projects. Your help is needed to participate in work crews assisting our local land managers to clean-up trails and shorelines, pick up debris and remove invasive plant species. Projects are available at all levels of physical ability and you will be helping the environment and supporting your local communities at the same time.
Highlighting this year’s earth day effort, SUBASE plans to team with the Connecticut department of environmental protection to start a 25 acre wetland habitat improvement project in the wetland area on the base.
During the week of April 19 through 25, SUBASE hopes to put at least ten work crews out in the local area. Dates and hours are flexible to accommodate your schedules. Consider taking part in a good cause. Don’t be the last command on your block to sign up.

I recently managed to get a contact at the BHC that is going to send me updates on flu shots and H1N1. Click here for the first flyer she has sent me - I’ll be posting updates on the front page of GrotonSOSA.com as well as the message board as they come in. Please feel free to let other wives on your boats and in your commands know that the information is and will be available online on http://www.GrotonSOSA.com as I receive it. The information is truly something that can be use by all – members/non-members, officers/enlisted…
Another FYI – if you visit the ‘official’ BHC website, the information posted there is inaccurate. I downloaded the immunization form and took it in only to be told the one I downloaded and filled out from the website was obsolete and had to fill out another one.
