Volunteer Opportunities

NMCRS has need of volunteers in the Thrift Shop and in the NMCRS Office.  NMCRS is looking for people who want to get involved and give back to the Navy community.  Positions include Client Service Assistants, who answer phones, book appointments, and process Quick Assist Loans, and Caseworkers, who provide more in depth financial counseling and provide emergency financial assistance in the form of loans and grants.  Training is provided and experience is great on a resume.  Babysitting expenses are reimbursed!

Opportunity for Subase Kids through OMK

The Lt. Governor’s office arranged for a shipment of backpacks filled with school supplies to be delivered to OMK for distribution to military kids around the state. They arrived this morning and are now stored in our storage facility here in Norwich.

I need to distribute the backpacks as quickly as possible because they are taking up every spare inch of the storage space and I can’t access my OMK stuff. Please send me a request for how many backpacks you would like, where you want them, and when you need them by Friday, November 5.

Also, the Lt. Governor and his wife would like to attend an event where these backpacks are being given out. If you plan to give them out at an event, please give me the event details and I will forward the information to the Lt. Governor’s office.

Please note, these are NOT OMK Hero Packs and can go to any military child in the state, not just those with deployed servicemembers.

Thanks so much for your help!

Ledyard Senior Center 8 September!

With fall and the beginning of school comes the start of many of SOSA’s programs and activities. One of our first on the calendar is providing food and help for Ledyard Senior Center’s picnic on Wednesday, September 8. Ledyard Senior Center has a club that meets every Wednesday and pays $4 per person to outside organizations, such as SOSA, to provide lunch for the meeting. SOSA has been providing lunch to them for several years with this becoming one of our main fundraisers. That being said, we are looking for someone willing to coordinate the lunches this year for SOSA and LSC abiding by the new guidelines that all food must be prepared and cooked on-site. There are still plenty of possibilities with soup and salad being a favorite during the cooler months.

The picnic on September 8th is held at Bethel Park so the new restrictions do not apply and we may prepare food items in our homes. Please let Jen Roberts know if you would be able to provide food or help with set-up and clean-up. Recipes for the pasta salad, baked beans and congo bars are linked.

Thank you so much for your help with this FUNdraiser! Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more information on Chairing this project this year.
